Juan Peña, who has diabetes, has developed a habit of wearing data monitoring devices to keep track of his own health condition. Utilizing this data analysis approach, Juan applied it to the concept of coffee cultivation. He collaborated with the University of Cuenca to develop a series of data engineering techniques to monitor the health and nutrient status of coffee farming. Through the development of software, the main interface allows for real-time monitoring of soil nutrients, pH levels, and other factors to assess the coffee's health. The implementation of drip irrigation systems ensures the immediate delivery of nutrients and water, meeting the coffee plants' immediate needs. Additionally, disease management is carried out by regularly inviting plant doctors to monitor different planting areas on a monthly basis. This proactive approach helps identify potential diseases in the plants. If any issues are detected, immediate disease control measures are implemented, including the removal of affected plants within a certain area to prevent the spread of diseases. Therefore, Hacienda La Papaya excels in disease management and maintains a high level of control in the field.
